Granada Province

Sun and snow, land and sea, history and legend.

The province of Granada has so much to offer, from the mythical city that witnessed the fall of the king of Moorish Al-Andalus to pristine natural areas. The land that charmed the romantic travellers still bewitches anybody who visits it.

The historic and beautiful city of Granada is only 15 minutes drive away from Villa Ithaca, with easy access by car or bus.

The city provides a wealth of attractions including the wonderful Alhambra palace, modern shopping complexes, cosmopolitan restaurants and diverse nightlife.

Spring comes early in Spain, the almond trees blossom in late January, followed immediately by peach, cherry and orange. In summer, through to late autumn there is an abundance of geraniums, poppies, bougainvillea, and many other flowers.

The countryside is wonderful for walking, riding, bird watching and stargazing. This part of Spain has some of the clearest skies in Europe and shooting stars are a familiar sight.

The Costa Tropical with its wonderful climate & lush vegetation is 35 minutes drive through stunning mountain scenery.

Flying fish and dolphins can be seen in the warm waters of the Mediterranean (It's true! We've seen them!).

The white villages of the Alpujarra are a 30 minutes drive from Villa Ithaca.

Beautiful white villages nestle onto terraced slopes. The region offers wonderful hiking opportunities where you can encounter endemic species of flora and fauna. The mountain range offers some of the most incredible landscapes in Spain, and on a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of the Rif mountains in Morocco.

The International Ski resort Sol y Nieve is a 45 minutes drive with excellent skiing in season, walking and breathtaking views.

Visit the the extraordinary cave dwellings at Guadix. The most interesting feature of the Guadix area is that almost half of the inhabitants of this large town live underground, in the southern part of the town. The jagged ochre terrain and the dazzling whitewashed chimneys and doors of the caves contrast dramatically with the snow-covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada, which loom above. The cave district is sign-posted on the main street of the town as the "Barrio Troglodyte".
